WEAPONS OF MASS ERECTION is a live performance piece by Mercedes that proposes the stripper as the contemporary hunter gatherer + female warrior.
Inspired by her observations in the strip club, the artist combines strippers’ tactical signals with movement found in pop culture’s representation of female fighters and feline animals in the animal kingdom.
Slinky yet predatory in their approach, the stripper/warrior’s body language becomes a form of communication; the stage giving them a vantage point as they scan their hunting ground, signaling their plan of seduction between one another.
Narrated in the likes of a David Attenborough wildlife documentary (Mercedes’ preferred relaxation aid after a night shift at the club), the audio piece describes ‘the hunt’ - the stripper/warrior’s body and Pleaser stripper heels acting as their weapon.

Their weapons seek no destruction
They merely hunt, gather, and indulge on the ironed shirts
stiff from the wives nice smelling poison
Hungry
They move cautiously through leather office shoes in a meditative state of annihilation
Their weapons hypnotize
Powerful
Resilient
More solid than financial erection
Will the warriors eat tonight?
Scoping
Sucking
Scratching

The warriors stalk
Imposing their sadistic temptation
Savage
Sincere
Erotic creepers surviving on deviance
In darkness they thrive
feeding on the sins of the puritanical
The lonely shirts who wish to repent
They play together
doing the dance of indecent intention
Steven and warrior
in holy matrimony
Her hunting ground echos
with horny murmurs of the lost and found
Amongst the chaos
The penetrative light
the nauseating sounds
Her weapons protected
Two meters above
the testosteronic carnage
She shall not play nice
but she shall also appease
A creature in the sky so mutable
that she may seem demonic

or tight torsos of the G&T ketos
She scans each face
preparing to pounce

Currency, gathered
Soft at her mercy
Steven cries again
His willing captivity irking the conformist values
so ritualistic that they’re ironed into his crisp cotton uniform
